Mestranol is an orally active estrogenic steroid (1). A synthetic estrogen even more potent than estradiol it was the estrogen used in many of the first oral contraceptives (2). It is primarily used in women who have undergone hysterectomy or oophorectomy operations (3). This compound is a contaminant of emerging concern (CECs).
