2-Benzothiazolethiol is an intermediate used to synthesize benzothiazole derivatives as cyclooxygenase inhibitors. It is also used to prepare pyridinone derivatives as potent non-nucleoside human immunodeficiency virus type 1 specific reverse transcriptase inhibitors.
